I believe, and I know many others do, that the A30 between St Erth and Penzance no longer meets the demand we place upon it. I do however recognise there will be those of you who will not be affected by this and may choose to ignore this email.
The A30 Bypass is not a new idea. It was developed in the 1990s and got the go ahead, only to be shelved in 1997 when Labour came to power. Since then, traffic has increased, new homes and industrial units have been built along the route and long overdue road safety measures are yet to be introduced in St Erth and Crowlas. Crowlas remains the only village not bypassed by the A30, and the school is popular and has grown significantly.
We need to reduce congestion and harmful emissions and boost our local economy. Congestion on the A30 west of St Erth is estimated to cost Penwith's economy £3.1m per annum.
The Government is currently inviting proposals for road improvements to be included in the Road Investment Strategy 2. The improvements to the A30 at Temple and Carland Cross to Chiverton Cross are already included in the Road Investment Strategy 1. The current deadline for this consultation is 1st July.
This is our opportunity to consider how the A30 can meet both the demand of today and also prepare for future demand.
To ensure your voice is heard, and because I am concerned that the current consultation has not been widely publicised, I have asked Highways England to extend the consultation period by one month.
Please help! Cornwall Council have priorities to the east of the county, and as usual, West Cornwall runs the risk of being ignored and left stranded. We need our voices to be heard, and so we need your support now.
You can help by:

At this stage all we are asking for is that the A30 from St Erth to Newtown Roundabout, near Penzance, is considered as a priority for improvement in the Government's Road Investment Strategy 2.
